Psychological State and Body Size as Determinants of 17-OHCS Excretion

Abstract



The 17-hydroxycorticosteroid (17-OHCS) excretion was measured in recruits during the first month of basic combat training. Twenty-seven men were interviewed and observed daily, after which predictions were made of the degree of arousal individuals experienced during training. These assessments of psychological state and estimates of body size correlated significantly with 17-OHCS excretion. Combined use of both variables provided better prediction than either alone.
