A Predictable Error in Use of Renal Vein Renin in Diagnosing Hypertension

Andrew M. Michelakis, MD, PhD; James W. Woods, MD; Grant W. Liddle, MD; Eugene C. Klatte, MD

Arch Intern Med. 1969;123(4):359-361.

Abstract

Although unilateral renal artery stenosis is usually characterized by a diagnostically useful disparity between the renal vein renin values on the two sides, this disparity can be obscured if the renal vein blood samples are drawn too soon after the patient changes from an upright to a recumbent posture.
