Abstract
Three patients had unusual cases of reactive lymphoreticular hyperplasia, two being associated with kissing gastric ulcers resembling malignancy, a lesion which has the occasional similarity in endoscopic appearance to carcinoma of superficial type. The third patient's case was similar in appearance to a benign nonepithelial tumor. Inasmuch as the gastroscopic appearance of the lesion in the first patient had changed significantly during the period of two weeks, careful follow-up study may demonstrate the features of the lesion as benign inflammatory reaction associated with coexistent disease (ulcer). The cytological diagnosis is difficult, due to similar findings in malignant lymphoma of the mature lymphocytic type. The presence of plasma cells in pools of lymphocytes is a helpful sign, when present, as in two of the three patients described.
