Abstract
A prevalence screening program with colonoscopy was undertaken in four kindreds manifesting the cancer family [ill]yndrome. Forty-five percent of counseled patients underwent [ill]olonoscopy, providing 42 asymptomatic individuals. Seven [ill]atients (17%) were found to have adenomatous or villous [ill]olyps; two of these were malignant and one showed epithelial [ill]typia. Three of the seven patients with polyps had multiple [ill]sions. Only two patients had rectosigmoid polyps. From [ill]ese limited data, colonoscopy is recommended as a useful [ill]creening eening procedure in individuals at high risk for colorectal [ill]ancer.
