Use of Tetracyclines vs Rifampin

Abstract

• We describe four patients with Mycobacterium marinuminfections who did not respond to two- to six-week courses oftherapy with tetracycline, minocycline, and doxycycline. Allfour patients had prompt responses to therapy with either rifampinalone (two patients) or rifampin in combination with ethambutol.Results of antimicrobial sensitivity tests may be helpful inguiding therapy. Rifampin may be the drug of choice for treatmentof these infections.
