Truly Universal Access

Since this article does not have an abstract, we have provided the first 68 words of the full text and any section headings.

It seems incredible that in the year 2001 a piecemeal 20-year plan for American health care insurance be called "bold."1-2 Certainly, some of the ideas put forth, such as involving patients in care, are laudable. But anything less than a single-payer, not-for-profit system of health care insurance that ensures truly universal access must be viewed as timid and ultimately untenable.
