Cat-Associated Zoonosis: Don't Forget Rabies and Leishmaniasis

Since this article does not have an abstract, we have provided the first 104 words of the full text and any section headings.

We read with great interest the review by Kravetz and Federman1 about cat zoonoses. There are 2 major cat-associated diseases with an important impact regarding human pathology forgotten by the authors. The first disease is cat leishmaniasis. Leishmania infantum, the agent of the Mediterranean leishmaniasis, has been identified in cats.2 Approximately 50 cases of cat leishmaniasis have been reported including cutaneous and visceral forms.2-3 The number of asymptomatic carrier cats of the parasite could be more important than previously thought.4 The other major forgotten infectious disease that can be transmitted to humans is rabies.5
