It is always comforting to the medical profession when new investigations confirm older observations. Such was the study of Ayas et al,1 which found relatively more coronary events in women reporting either short or long sleep durations. Their study supports the 2000-year-old clinical experience of Hippocrates,2 who noted: "Both sleep and insomnolency, when immoderate, are bad."
