Eichler and colleagues offer several helpful comments about our analysis. First, we agree that our article provides limited guidance regarding low coronary risk populations, since the majority of patients in our meta-analysis were of intermediate to high coronary risk.1
Second, we are grateful to Eichler and colleagues for pointing out an error in our results. The text in the "Metaregression" subsection of the "Results" section should have read that greater reductions in the (relative) benefit in statin therapy were associated with smaller (not greater) baseline coronary artery disease risk.1(p2310) As such, our results support the forest plot that Eichler and colleagues present. Despite this, high-risk patients still derive sizable absolute benefits from therapy by virtue of their elevated baseline rate of events.
Finally, we assumed homogeneity of treatment effects for the calculation . . . [Full Text of this Article] AUTHOR INFORMATION
