COMMENTS AND OPINIONS
Estimating Cardiovascular Risk—Reply

Audrey Weymiller, CNP; Victor M. Montori, MD, MSc

Since this article does not have an abstract, we have provided the first 150 words of the full text and any section headings.

In reply

We appreciate the opportunity to respond to the question by Seidel and Stocks. We agree with them that CHD risk and CVD risk are often confused. Thankfully, we correctly used a CHD estimator and communicated this risk to the patients as "risk for heart attack," not as total cardiovascular risk. Thus, the confused use of cardiovascular risk for CHD risk is limited to the report of our study.1 We are very grateful to Seidel and Stocks for noticing this in the report. This confusion in the report, however, does not threaten the validity of the study because the patients were correctly informed of the risk we were providing in the decision aid.
