We read with interest the study by Baik et al.1 We note that chronic bronchitis was diagnosed on the basis of a positive history of chronic sputum production on most days for at least 3 months a year for at least 2 successive years.2
Chronic rhinosinusitis is characterized by nasal obstruction, rhinorrhea, postnasal drip, and anosmia.3 Similar to chronic bronchitis, these symptoms are also elicited by a positive history. Snoring may arise as a result of the nasal obstruction associated with chronic rhinosinusitis.
Data collection for the study by Baik et al1 was collated exclusively from questionnaires with no recourse to physical examination. Self-reported sputum production may well be postnasal drip. Therefore, without a full nasal examination, a diagnosis of chronic rhinosinusitis cannot be excluded and may be the cause of the snoring rather than chronic bronchitis.
