Nitrofurantoin unmasking peripheral neuropathy in a type 2 diabetic patient

It is well documented that patients with preexisting renal dysfunction are
at increased risk of having nitrofurantoin-induced peripheral neuropathy
develop. A diabetic patient whose condition was controlled by diet alone
had peripheral neuropathy develop four days after starting nitrofurantoin
therapy for the treatment of a urinary tract infection.
