In the past three years, there have been three major symposia in the field of immunology which have been published subsequently in book form. The present volume reviews papers presented last year at an international symposium on "Immunopathology" in Basel. It is natural that the papers presented at the three meetings should overlap to some extent. The volume here reviewed has the special feature that it offers access to much recent European work. The reader who is limited strictly to English should not be concerned, since, of the 43 articles presented, over two-thirds are in English.

With regard to the title, Coombs suggests in one chapter that it might more properly have been "Pathogenic Immunoreactions," since the book deals essentially with immunological reactions which are harmful to the host.
