Dr. Harold Abramson has ably assembled the thoughts expressed by participants of the Fourth Conference on Neuropharmacology sponsored by the Josiah Macy, Jr., Foundation, Sept. 25-27, 1957, at Princeton, N.J. The topics presented and discussed are: "The Effect of Respiratory Poisons and Anoxia on Siamese Fighting Fish in Relation to LSD-25 Reaction," by Harold A. Abramson; "Clinical Studies with Taraxein," by Robert G. Heath; " 'Stop' and 'Start' Systems," by John C. Lilly; and "Some Relations between Chemical Structure and Physiological Action of Mescaline and Related Compounds," by Gordon A. Alles.

The book is a worthwhile contribution to psychopharmacological literature. Of greater importance than the experimental observations reported are the discussions relative to scientific methodology, treatment of data, and their interpretation.
