This is an excellent monograph reflecting a great amount of exacting work. It has long been felt that the major cerebral arteries were end-arteries. However, it has been observed by neuropathologists that the area of infarcted brain did not always correspond with the region of supply of the occluded vessel. The obvious explanation was anastomotic channels between the major cerebral arteries. The author has studied these leptomeningeal artery anastomoses from an embryologic, anatomic, and pathologic standpoint. The book is beautifully illustrated. This is a definitive monograph and will, undoubtedly, remain a classic in the field of cerebral vascular disease.
