This is a collection of synopses of various disease entities affecting children. It does not include a section on neurological diagnosis, but substitutes a chapter on mental growth and development. This is excellent, for the concept of the evolving nervous system in difficult to grasp by internists and neurologists accustomed to dealing with the relatively static adult norm. There are deficiencies for the pediatrician, however. In no specialty is one brought so closely into contact with the basic principles of anatomy, physiology, and chemistry as he is in neurology. This approach is neither emphasized nor provided. This is unfortunate, as the book will probably serve as the neurology reference for many pediatricians who are normally not exposed to these disciplines during their training. With this reservation, the book is a quick and up-to-date reference. It contains information for the neurologist and pediatrician not found in current texts of their specialties. . . .
