This publication of the third Josiah Macy Jr. Foundation conference on glaucoma is an advanced study of the minutiae of the disease. Research is presented with group interchange of ideas and questions as they arise. The twenty-three participants and guests discuss in detail basic principles of tonography as related to scleral rigidity and to intraocular pressure measurements. Some clinical problems are indicated in the discussion.
Dr. Bárány of Uppsala, Sweden, discussed some systematic factors in the formation of aqueous humor and showed some electron microscopic pictures of the nonpigments epithelium of the ciliary body. He presents some interesting theories on the formation of aqueous humor. A good discussion of the consensual changes in intraocular pressure under experimental conditions is included in order to evaluate the nervous control of the intraocular pressure.
