The Macy Foundation conferences are so well known to all medical groups that the technique need not be reviewed here. This transcription of the fourth conference on glaucoma held in March, 1959, is more or less a follow-up on the preceding three conferences. In this conference the anatomic and histological changes were emphasized. The trabecular structure was examined with the electron microscope in extremely thin sections in an attempt to augment the findings of the light microscope. Studies were presented in which material was injected into the eye, followed by electron-microscope examination of the tissues. This was done in an effort to determine the mechanism of filtration through the trabecular apparatus.
In other discussions, utilization of new histochemical techniques of differential staining are presented, with neophrene casts of the chamber angle and the canal Schlemm. Considerable discussion followed pertaining to the use of postmortem vs. fresh material. There is no
