The first published reports by Löffler of the syndrome of pulmonary infiltration with eosinophilia in 1932¹ and again in 1936² described a mild, frequently asymptomatic, self-limited illness. Subsequent European reports confirmed his observations. The affected patients were found frequently to have helminthic infestations, bronchial asthma, allergic rhinitis, angioneurotic edema, or eczema. This syndrome has been described in the American literature with increasing frequency over the past 10 years. In this country more attention has been paid to the syndrome as a manifestation of hypersensitivity to a wide variety of drugs. A review of the literature reveals no published reports of this syndrome occurring in patients during the postpartum period. With the exception of the recent report of Eldridge,³ little or no attention has been paid to the abnormalities of pulmonary function tests occurring with the syndrome.
