The textbook of Surgical Pathology, by Illingworth and Dick, is now in its 8th edition since 1932, a fact which of itself suggests that the book has value. The authors in the Preface to the first edition state clearly for whom and why the book was written, "For graduates and senior students with the object of providing an account of the pathology of surgical diseases and especially of those aspects that are outside the scope of textbooks of general pathology." The style of the book is a review rather than full coverage of any particular subject but does contain interesting clinical points with an absence of exhaustive minutiae and in the strict sense, there is no intent to prevent overlap with standard textbooks of pathology.
