At the Tower of Babel men dispersed, being utterly unable to understand each other. Physicians who long ago gave up the attempt to understand the "mumbo-jumbo" of the blood coagulationists will be pleased to note that workers in this field are now beginning to communicate with each other and perhaps also with the rest of mankind. A recent book illustrates important clarification in the nomenclature of the clotting factors.
Entitled New Blood Clotting Factors, it represents the labor of the International Committee on Blood Clotting Factors. This committee has met over the past several years and ultimately agreed that clotting factors should be given numerical designations instead of the many different names hitherto attached to a given factor. Thus proconvertin, stable factor, autoprothrombin I, and serum prothrombin conversion accelerator will now be known as Factor VII.
