This book is a text of the history, technique, and application of nerve blocks. It is written to commemorate the birth and development of regional anesthesia at Bellevue Hospital and, more specifically, to document the contributions of E. A. Rovenstine toward the application of nerve blocking as a diagnostic and therapeutic tool.
The reader of this volume is frequently confronted with misprints, miscomposition, and inaccuracies. Apparently, this manuscript has been published without adequate revision, rewrite, or attention to detail.
Although currently available texts on this subject are entirely adequate, one would be inclined to accept this book because of the propriety of the author's expressed intentions. However, this reviewer must conclude that this volume will fail its mission because, in quality, it is far below the standards set by the many outstanding persons it is intended to commemorate.
