This book makes available a brief, accurate and up-to-date Review of Medical Microbiology, as both the title and the author's preface suggest. It contains a very adequate amount of basic science. Errors of fact are few. The choices of subjects and general principles for presentation are good. The book is revised every two years, and the authors have done a good job of choosing the new and significant since the first edition appeared in 1954. My colleagues and I refer to the Reviews as we teach Medical Microbiology to second-year medical students. At least two-thirds of our medical students each year purchase and use it even though we do not list it as a required text.
The feature of this Review which is the strongest recommendation is also, in my opinion, its greatest weakness. There are only 377 pages, and the material is presented in a very compact and abbreviated
