The current volume of the Proceedings of the American Heart Association's Council for High Blood Pressure Research continues in the same general format as its predecessors. Each annual series of papers has consisted of resumes of investigation broadly relevant to human hypertension.
The six papers in the present volume cover: (1) the changes in the juxtaglomerular apparatus in experimental hypertension (Tobian); (2) the depressor effect of the renal medulla on renoprival hypertension (Muirhead); (3) the pressor substance in the renal vein(s) of some hypertensive patients (Helmer and Judson); (4) the influence of the sodium gradient on vascular smooth-muscle contraction (Friedman); (5) the comparative functions of the large and small branches of the peripheral vasculature (Haddy), and (6) the regulation of function in the innervated heart (Sarnoff).
The presentations are on a high level. Because each of the papers is a digest of a number of studies, brevity occasionally exceeds clarity
