Probably not many physicians are familiar with the excellent series of books published by the United States Department of Agriculture in their Yearbook Series. I first came to know these books in the early years of World War II when the 1941 Yearbook of Agriculture, entitled Climate and Man, proved a fertile source of information and a very helpful reference book with its many tables of environmental temperatures throughout the world and a condensation of much of the information then available about this aspect of man's ecology. Others I have used for reference from time to time include Soils and Men, Food and Life, Farmers in a Changing World, and Science in Farming. The whole collection is one of real distinction.
