This volume, published late in 1960, contains what seem to be stenographic transcriptions of the papers and discussions of a conference on Cystic Fibrosis held in Washington D.C., January 7-9, 1959, under the sponsorship of the National Institutes of Health in association with the National Cystic Fibrosis Research Foundation. Nearly all of the Americans who have made significant contributions to knowledge of this disorder, plus a few European workers to lend international flavor to the proceedings, were assembled under the general chairmanship of Rustin McIntosh, to consider the present status of basic research activities relating to this polysystemic disease. On the first day of the conference, attention was focused upon the general clinic picture of the disease, pathologic anatomy of the early changes in the pancreas, and the metabolism of mucus.
