This volume reports the Fifth Conference on Group Processes sponsored by the Josiah Macy Jr. Foundation. There were four formal presentations at the conference, but the one by Dr. Helen Blauvelt on Problems of Carrying Out Experiments with Human Mothers and Newborn Children was not included at the author's request. The remaining presentations vary widely in content. Julius Richmond's paper, Experimental Aspects of Pediatrics, is focused on measuring heart rate changes of the neonate in response to various stimuli. Horst Mittelstaedt of the Max Planck Institute discusses The Analysis of Behavior in Terms of Control Systems. One requires some sophistication in mathematics of communications and servomechanisms to follow his thesis. The longest presentation is The Cult as a Condensed Social Process by Margaret Mead and Theodore Schwartz.
