This 593-page book is based mostly on the data collected through bone-marrow aspiration biopsies. It is divided into a general and a special part. The general part contains chapters dealing with the techniques of bone marrow puncture; fetal and postnatal hematopoiesis; the anatomy of the blood-forming organs; cytology of bone marrow cells, the "reticulohistiocytic" system; morphology of mitoses; physiology and the general pathology of the bone marrow; bone marrow differentials and the postmortem artifacts. The special part deals with the pathophysiology and morphology of the bone marrow in diseases of the red cell, white cell, and platelet-formation. There is detailed discussion of the bone marrow findings of every hematological condition. Infectious diseases, aregeneratory panmyelopathies, hemoblastoses, leukemias; polycythemia and "reticulohistiocytic" hemoblastoses (Ewing's sarcoma, lymphosarcoma, etc.) are all discussed.
