Influenza is a virus-caused disease which has plagued humanity in varying degrees for centuries. It causes a remarkable amount of morbidity and sometimes surprising mortality as evidenced by the recent pandemic due to the "Asian" strain of the virus. By virtue of these facts this disease has received a great deal of attention by workers throughout the world. This book is an attempt to review these numerous investigations.

Although it was translated and published in the United States in 1960, the book was written and pertains to work that was done prior to the 1957-1958 "Asian" influenza investigations.
