For some years the serious problem of supplying adequate medical manpower for the needs of the country has exercised professional medical educators, government officials, and many others whose interests are both official and unofficial. This book, the Bane report, now more than a couple of years old, gives a dramatic statement of the problems and a picture of the needs. As for all projections into the future, it must be based on extrapolations which may or may not turn out to be correct. We need to remember this sort of projected view of the future population back in the depression years of the 1930's to realize that our present population is somewhere near 50,000,000 higher than estimates based on a projection of what was going on at that time.
