New journals, monographs, books, and reviews contributing to our knowledge in pharmacology are appearing at an ever-increasing rate. One of the more valuable and useful of the recent contributions is the Annual Review of Pharmacology, the newest member of the family of annual reviews. The introduction of this review is indicative of the maturing of pharmacology as a discipline and a sign of the coming of age of the subject.

Three of the early chapters in Volume 1 of Annual Review of Pharmacology describe the highlights of pharmacology in Japan, Latin America, and in the U.S.S.R. These sections are written by mature pharmacologistsn of the respective areas and serve to give the volume an international flavor. Thus pharmacologists and other interested individuals can keep abreast of the developments in pharmacology in other countries. This technique will be continued in subsequent volumes.
