Some months before he died, Dr. Walter Bierring gave me a copy of this autobiography of Edward H. Richardson, perhaps because he knew that I came from Virginia and had interned at The Johns Hopkins Hospital. As the book slowly worked its way down the shelf, I decided to pick it out ahead of time. Recently I finished it. It will certainly appeal to many people who have a southern background as well as those who have been connected with The Johns Hopkins Hospital, Medical School, and University. Much of what is told of the boyhood days in the Virginia countryside reminds me, with a lot of interesting variations, of what I used to hear many times over from my father.
