This important book is the first part of a comprehensive treatment of mineral metabolism, and deals with physical principles for analysis of mineral metabolism. Biological principals will be covered in the second part, and in the third, the individual chemical elements will be considered. The chapter headings give an indication of the scope and emphasis on fundamentals that characterize the work. "Homeostasis in Mineral Metabolism" (F.C. McLean) deals with broad general principles. "Thermodynamic Principles and Concepts" (J.B. Best and J.Z. Hearon), "Cybernetic Aspects of Homeostasis" (S. Goldman), "Chelation" (T. Moeller and E.P.
