With the multiplication of kinds of physicians and of members of related scientific disciplines, the intelligent layman may wish often for a guide to the most effective use of the medical facilities available to him. Dr. Potter is to be congratulated on his selection of topics for discussion and on his choice of questions which he tries to answer. A valuable feature is an appendix with clear short definitions of the medical specialties.

If a book of this character achieves wide circulation, the general public is likely to ascribe the opinions to the medical profession in general. Such ascription is likely to occur even though the author makes a statement that the opinions expressed are his own. For that reason, no matter how forcefully an author may express his opinion— and no one should deny him the right—he owes it to the public to present fairly all sides of issues . . .
