Dr. Bloomfield's retirement has enabled him to come into full flower as a medical bibliographer of rare skill and great distinction. The Lane Medical Library at Stanford University over which he presided in regal fashion, at least intellectually, with its rooms and stacks as well as great treasures of books, was displayed by him to the eager visitor with benevolent enthusiasm. It provided the lodes which he worked with such distinguished success in his A Bibliography of Internal Medicine: Communicable Diseases, reviewed some time ago in these columns. Now he has done it again with selected topics in internal medicine. These introductions give an admirable background and should lead the novice to a more detailed and deeper study of certain diseases in which he might find a growing interest.
