This book was read and reviewed with mixed feelings, among which, however, considerable enthusiasm predominated. The title is somewhat misleading since large parts of this book do not deal with either methodology or human genetics. It represents the transcript of a conference with the same title held in Salt Lake City in May, 1960 (!), under the sponsorship of the University of Utah and the Genetics Study Section of the National Institutes of Health of which Dr. Burdette was the chairman. The date of publication (1962) and that of Dr. Burdette's preface (November, 1961) would lead one to the erroneous belief that the contents were relatively "fresh," especially since the date of the conference does not appear anywhere in the book. And this is one of the great and universally lamented disadvantages of conference reports of this type—they are out of date by the time they are available to the "consumer."
