This volume consists of a collection of essays which weaves a psychoanalytic fabric out of the significant concepts of this field. Such areas as psychotherapy, human nature, experimental psychology, social science, existentialism, psychoanalytic training, transference, sympathy, and empathy are succinctly and cogently analyzed.

Like all collections, the contributions are of unven quality. The recurrent theme which pervades all the chapters is that psychoanalysis is emerging into a truly operational, dynamic, and integrative organ of human behavior. The material is written simply and lucidly, and one does not need a psychiatric dictionary as a companion volume to chew through the psychoanalytic jargon.
