Patients with intersex states and inappropriate sex assignment who remain untreated until adult life pose difficult technical, psychological, and medicolegal problems. Because the cases are rare and show great variation in the multiple pathogenic factors involved, decisions regarding treatment are difficult to make in the individual case. The purpose of this communication is to report in detail an adult, female intersex who was reared in opposition to his anatomic and genetic sex, but in whom surgical and hormonal treatment augmented social rehabilitation.* Information about the patient's mother that is pertinent to the etiologic classification of the female intersex state is included.
