A Browne Study

Devotees of Thomas Browne, historians, antiquarians, physicians of good will, and thoughful people in general will be pleased to know that heroic efforts are going into the preservation of St. Peter Mancroft's Church in Norwich where Browne worshiped and was buried. Later his skull was "knaved out" of his grave, many years before another of Sir William Osler's efforts came to fruition with the restoration of the skull to the other part of the skeleton. The appalling cost of saving and restoring a monument of this kind needs to be shared widely in the great republic of medicine. I urge all physicians to make a contribution towards the restoration of this church, thus keeping another memorial from falling into ruin.
