Gleanings From the Commonplace Book of a Medical Reader

It has often been observed that music is the art to which physicians are most generally attracted. Whether as performers or as listeners, a considerable number of medical men have some sort of interest in music. More than one doctor of my acquaintance could easily have become professional performers if they had so wished. Many play regularly in chamber music groups. In at least four large cities of the world there are first-rate symphony orchestras composed entirely of doctors. And in more modest corners of the professional world of medicine there are scores of men and women who are happy amateurs playing some instrument or other.
