One can only admire the courage of Dr. Licht in his attempt to edit a book summarizing and presenting in detail our present scientific knowledge of medical climatology. The book is subdivided in 28 chapters written by 32 different authors, and is very well and liberally illustrated. Since science itself is international, Dr. Licht does not restrict his attention to the United States but tries to cover medical climatology throughout the world, with contributions from authors of ten different countries. What could have been an asset to the book became his Achilles' heel. Apparently with increasing distance between the authors' residence and that of the editor, the latter loses more and more control over the authors. Many of the authors apparently know well only the literature in their mother tongue and, astonishingly, the authors from the United States were in this respect much less sinners than the European authors.
