Just over four hundred years ago Shakespeare was born. Somewhere I am quoted as having said something about being interested in Shakespeare and his medical lore. At the moment such casual words were issued I thought this was nothing more than any civilized physician would say. I have been getting cheerful letters, reprints, commentaries, and even books from people who wish to tell me about Shakespeare. Here and there I have picked up some books. They are called Dr. Shakespeare, William Shakespeare, M.D., Medicine and Shakespeare, Shakespeare as a Midwife, and suchlike things. I thought it would be interesting in the year of Shakespeare's four hundredth time around to reread some of the plays and the books about them, as well as the sonnets. I procured this current study of Shakespeare's Politics, wondering what it might have of medicine and doctors. A surprising but very rewarding book it is and
