This excellent little book presents Dr. Brewer's experience in reviewing 500 renal biopsies carried out at the University of Birmingham, England. The patients described were under the care of Professor J. R. Squire, Dr. J. Hardwicke, Dr. J. F. Soothill, and Dr. J. D. Blainey. All of these men are recognized for their contributions to the understanding and management of renal disease. Dr. Brewer is Reader in Pathology, University of Birmingham, and Honorary Consultant Pathologist, United Birmingham Hospitals and Birmingham Hospital Board.

Astute and careful consideration of the biopsy material is well reflected in the various sections of this book. This interesting volume is broken down into eight chapters: the first deals with the ultimate limitations and complications of renal biopsy; the second, the normal kidney; the third, the nephrotic syndrome; the fourth, glomerulonephritis; the fifth, renal lesions in diabetes mellitus; the sixth, pyelonephritis; the seventh, the kidney of hypertension; . . .
