Cutaneous Metastases

THE CLINICAL features of metastatic tumor involving the skin have received comparatively little emphasis in medical writings designed for internists. It seemed worthwhile, therefore, to review briefly the subject of cutaneous metastases and to record our experience with ten illustrative cases.
Case Material
The study was carried out at the Ben Taub General Hospital which serves the indigent sick of Harris County, Texas. Nine of the patients were admitted to the medical service between March 1963 and November 1965. One person (case 2) was seen in consultation at another hospital. The pertinent clinical and histological findings in these cases are summarized in the Table. Patients with primary malignant disorders of the blood or lymph nodes were excluded in the belief that neoplastic deposits in the skin of such individuals are not truly metastatic.
