This work reflects a labor of prodigious magnitude and scope. The fact that it is so comprehensive has necessitated an expensive bulk as well. That one man could, and would, undertake such a task is remarkable. It is all the more remarkable that, in general, he has done an excellent job with a subject which, like so many things pertaining to biology, encompasses a myriad of approaches. The author incisively shows that the subject of cardiovascular pathology includes many fields: epidemiology, hematology, comparative cardiology, endocrinology, embryology, physiology, pharmacology, anatomy, pathology, and histology. The fact that the author himself made many of the excellent photographs, drawings, and museum preparations indicates his skill in these important methods of exposition. His succinct discussion of the "mechanics" of some of these methods should be useful.
