Dr. Victor McKusick is a past master at providing comprehensive reviews of important medical subjects. He obviously still believes a textbook ought to have a single author. In providing a third edition of his now classic Heritable Disorders of Connective Tissue, he continues to provide the most comprehensive discussion of a group of diseases that might well be named the cornerstone of human medical genetics. Alkaptonuria was among the first diseases genetically understood, and it shares this book with Marfan syndrome, homocystinuria, Ehlers-Danlos syndrome, osteogenesis imperfecta, pseudoxanthoma elasticum, the mucopolysaccharidases (Hurler, Hunter, Sanfilippo, Morquio, Scheie, and MaroteauxLamy syndromes), and rarer disorders. Each chapter provides a definition, a historical survey, and illustrative case reports. The book is lavishly illustrated, and the pictures themselves can serve as diagnostic guides. Genetic pedigrees are included to provide a model of the inheritance. The author has provided a bibliographic reference for every point he makes,
