The 13th Hahnemann Symposium was concerned with the stomach, including related areas in the esophagus and duodenum. The editors of this book have offered no foreword or other explanatory introduction, but apparently all of the formal presentations and discussions of the symposium are included here. Sixty-five authors contributed.
Each author presents his favorite thoughts about a favorite subject, and the result is a fine collection of interesting pieces. Almost all of the presentations are very brief—often only a couple of pages. Brevity leads in most instances to enthusiastic, to-the-point writing and to pleasant reading on a great many matters. It is a distinct relief not to find another overly detailed, in-depth compendium or one that specializes in detailed documentation of a sort that is supposed to render anything said quite acceptable and proper. There is, instead, an air of free, forthright opinion and lots of it.
