To the Editor.

—In their original article "Meningococcal Pneumonia" (ARCH INTERN MED 119:111 [Jan] 1967) Paine and his associates stated "only two cases of meningococcal pneumonia without meningitis are known to have occurred in the last 20 years." The two cases alluded to included the one described by Roberg in 1945, and the one reported by Meltzer and Kneeland in 1957. The latter report contains a review of the literature on this subject up to 1957.

Throughout the book the references are excellent; in some chapters monographs and reviews are listed separately. However, in chapter 3 less than half the references listed are actually noted in the text; six publications in which the authors are mentioned by name in the text, are omitted from the bibliography at the end of the chapter. If a work is important enough to warrant mention of the author by name, it would seem appropriate . . . [Full Text PDF of this Article]
