Just in case there is someone in the health care field who does not already know, the plain fact of the matter is that university medical centers throughout the nation are four-plus "uptight" about the place of health education and research on the list of priorities of the present national administration. The time now seems to be for "provision of health care services" and to turn away from basic science research and research-oriented training programs. Though there are some articulate voices within medicine who decry the seeming inapplicability of ultrascholastic basic research being done in medical centers, without such unrestricted and openended research the university facility becomes a cookbook-styled technical training school and locks itself into a repetitious use of procedure manuals.
