This volume in my opinion is an excellent review of the current state of the art of the management of diabetes in adults. Weller and his co-writers have done an extremely competent job in compiling, in a very readable form, a number of very practical points regarding the diagnosis of this form of diabetes. A very brief, well-written chapter is concerned with the clinical paradox presented by the adult-onset diabetic (the presence of amounts of insulin which would appear to be adequate as measured by radioimmunoassay and yet clear evidence of a deficiency of insulin activity at least in terms of blood glucose levels) and, of course, the ever-present difficulties of the so-called complications, (the microangiopathy or vasculopathy of the diabetic state).
